Rumours are rife that Celtic are looking to bring in another centre back before the deadline at the end of this month.

However, with a plethora of players who can play in this position, it would seem that the outgoings aren’t finished at the club just yet.

Here is the list of current Celtic players who can play at Centre back:

Kolo Toure, Erik Sviatchenko, Eoghan O’Connell, Dedryk Boyata, Jozo Simunovic, Efe Ambrose.

You could also add Mikael Lustig and Kristoffer Ajer into the mix, both are competent in playing in that position.

So that’s EIGHT defensive options for Rodgers and that’s without taking into account the rumour that a Ninth option might be on its way.

This indicated two things to me.

Rodgers will looks to play three centre backs on a more regular basis and he’s willing to let at least two of his current crop go.

So who is not going to make the cut? Efe Ambrose is surely a shoe-in to leave Celtic Park if another club wants him. There’s also been talk of Jozo heading to Italy but that seems to be unfounded and the big lad is still trying to get fit. With Kolo Toure, Erik Sviatchenko and Eoghan O’Connell looking safe than by the powers of deduction Boyata might be moved on if an offer comes in.

It’s no surprise that Rodgers has put so much attention on his back line, Celtic’s shortcomings in this department has caught us out in pivotal games in the past.

Let’s hope we have a cohesive unit come the end of this window.
