Brendan Rodgers Makes Exciting Claim About Celtic Fringe Players

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers spoke to the media on Monday afternoon at Lennoxtown. CeltsAreHere were in attendance as the double-treble-winning boss was on hand to provide updates to fans regarding many issues.

The Parkhead gaffer was initially asked about the impact of his substitutes on Sunday’s match. He said: “Guys like Mikey (Johnston) coming into the game yesterday were outstanding. He was really direct, fast and creative and worked hard. Jamesy (Forrest) gets his goal and Tomoki (Iwata) comes in and creates the third goal but that’s a testament to how they train.”

It certainly seems as though with the size of the current squad, training is the place where the Celtic players who are not necessarily first-choice picks can showcase their abilities to the manager. The Bhoys who came on at the weekend transferred their form from the practice pitch into a game.

When asked whether or not these players will make the next step and start games for Celtic soon, Rodgers said: “Yes, they will have the opportunity to do that.”

It remains to be seen if this will come on Wednesday evening against Hibernian but it is an intriguing prospect nonetheless. Johnston looks like a man with a point to prove at the minute whilst Iwata is a player of top quality who fans want to see more of.

They both made a notable impact on Sunday, and them getting the nod midweek would certainly excite supporters.
