Brendan Rodgers Labels Celtic “The better football team” in Glasgow Derby

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has hailed the way his team played football in yesterday’s Glasgow derby, claiming that how they approached the game was better than that of their city rivals.

Particularly in the first half, the Hoops were dominant. They couldn’t have gotten off to a better start in the game and just after the half-hour mark, Matt O’Riley’s panenka put them in the comfort zone.

Rangers eventually hit back and drew level but Adam Idah had other ideas. He put the Celts ahead almost immediately after Abdallah Sima levelled but Rabbi Matondo ensured the spoils were shared.

Although their performance in the second half slightly dipped, gaffer Rodgers remained pleased with his side’s efforts after the game.

He understands that some of a green-and-white persuasion may be left slightly disheartened, but the football played yesterday and the growing fitness of certain members of the squad should encourage fans.

He said: [The Celtic Way] “Some may be disappointed that we didn’t win but we were much the better football team in terms of how we tried to work the game and play.

“With a bit more precision in our passing, and we would have scored more goals. To be able to take that into the rest of the season with these players coming back. I am very excited about that.”

Celtic did lose a two-goal lead on Sunday, but the fact the title situation remains unchanged can be taken as a positive going into the final six games of the season.
