The 23-year-old has yet to make his first appearance in green and white but is expected to be handed his debut during the club’s upcoming trip to Portugal, where they will step up pre-season preparations with further friendlies.

Rodgers, speaking after Celtic’s 2-1 win over Cork City in the inaugural Cork SuperCup, gave a positive early assessment of Nygren’s integration into the squad.

“I’m really excited by him,” Rodgers said, as quoted by RecordSport. “He’s a forward-thinking player, he’s got good legs, gets about the pitch and he’s showed up well since he’s come in.”

Nygren arrived from Nordsjaelland this summer as part of a growing recruitment push focused on adding attacking options. With Nicolas Kuhn’s exit to Como all but confirmed, Rodgers will hope Nygren can bring something fresh to Celtic’s forward line, capable of playing across it.

The Portugal camp is likely to give the manager a clearer picture of where Nygren fits into the attacking structure for the season ahead, with the Champions League qualifiers next month.

He does seem like a quality addition to the side, and there is some quiet excitement surrounding him, but there needs to be more than just him brought into teh squad over the next few weeks.
