Brendan Rodgers Hits Back At Green Brigade Banner

Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic return was made official on Monday at noon with the 50 year old being unveiled on Friday.

Anticipation is high regarding his second spell at the helm in Glasgow’s east end although a few supporters are still annoyed about the way he left back in 2019.

Mid season as Celtic were going for their third treble running, Rodgers left for Leicester and in the first game back after it, the Green Brigade revealed a banner which read:

“You Traded Immortality For Mediocrity. Never A Celt. Always A Fraud.”

The Ultras group the posted a picture of said banner immediately after Rodgers’ return was announced.

Such a move has certainly split opinion and on the words themselves, Rodgers said (Football Scotland):

“With the greatest respect, I don’t think winning a club the FA Cup for the first time in their [Leicester’s] history was mediocre, or taking them into Europe when they’d never been and having three of their best four finishes in the league.

“I don’t think it’s mediocre but everyone is entitled to their opinion.”

This banner clearly touched a nerve with Rodgers.

The new Celtic boss seemed quick to defend himself and some would say rightly so.

At the time, though, most Celtic fans held the same belief as the banner but as they say, time is a healer and the majority have changed their minds and are more than content with the 50 year old’s presence in the dugout.
