Kewell, who has served as a first-team coach for 18 months, was notably absent from the team’s recent victory at Dundee as he prepares for a managerial role at Yokohama F Marinos.

Former Marinos manager, Ange Postecoglou, was the man who brought him to Celtic for his second season with the club.

Rodgers, speaking about Kewell’s move, highlighted the positive aspects of coaches pursuing their ambitions and developing further in their careers. He praised Kewell’s professionalism and dedication during his time at Celtic. Rodgers described Kewell as a “good guy,” commending his honesty and professionalism in his coaching duties.

As quoted by Australian outlet KeepUp, the Celtic boss confirmed Kewell’s departure, saying, “Yeah, we will probably know more in the next few days but he has been in talks about going to Japan and it is something that will probably be clarified in the coming days.

“It’s great for Harry. I think it’s great if you’ve coaches who have that chance to go on and develop, improve and achieve an ambition. I’ve really liked working with Harry.

“He’s a good guy, he’s very honest and diligent. His work is very professional. But if there’s an opportunity to go and manage and you want to do it then you go and do it.”

Kewell’s desire to return to management follows his previous experiences leading Oldham and Barnet.

With Kewell’s departure, speculation arises about his potential replacement at Celtic. It’s believed that Celtic will appoint a replacement coach in January.
