Brendan Rodgers has rejected the idea that the pressure is solely on Rangers heading into Thursday’s showdown at Ibrox, insisting that Celtic place just as much expectation on themselves to perform and win every game.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Rodgers was asked whether the weight of expectation rested firmly on Rangers, given their position in the league and the mounting scrutiny on manager Philippe Clement.
The Celtic manager, however, was quick to deflect the notion, saying: [Celtic TV]
“We will always assume the pressure. We don’t want to say yes or no. We put ourselves under pressure in every game to win and to win well. Nothing changes in this aspect.”
Rodgers’ response highlights the culture of accountability he has fostered within his squad. Celtic approach every fixture, regardless of the opponent or the circumstances, with the same level of focus and determination.
With Celtic sitting 14 points clear at the top of the Premiership table, Rodgers’ side enters the game as favourites.
Despite Rodgers’ stance, the narrative around Rangers is markedly different. Philippe Clement’s side are reeling from a difficult festive period, including a loss to St Mirren and a draw with Motherwell. With the gap to Celtic now at a daunting 14 points, a defeat on Thursday could see Rangers’ slim title hopes effectively extinguished before the halfway stage of the season.
Former players and pundits, including Chris Sutton, have pointed out that Rangers must win to salvage their season.
