Celtic opened their Premiership campaign with a 1-0 win over St Mirren at Celtic Park, but Brendan Rodgers made it clear post-match that transfer business remains unfinished.
The victory over Stephen Robinson’s side came thanks to a solid, if unspectacular, display, with the Irishman admitting reinforcements are still required.

The young prospect is set to bolster Celtic’s defensive options, but Rodgers stopped short of suggesting an immediate influx of further signings.
While the three points were a positive start to the season, there was no hiding from the gaps in the squad that were evident against a well-drilled St Mirren side. Celtic had spells of control but lacked fluency in the final third, making the need for attacking reinforcements particularly apparent.
Rodgers’ focus, however, remained on praising his current squad for delivering a winning start. With the transfer window running until the end of the month, the Irishman insists there is still time to strengthen, but urged patience from supporters.
He said: (Sky Sports), “I’m only concentrating on the game. There’s a long way to go in the market, but today is about the players and all the staff as well, because we’ve had a really good pre-season.
“It’s always nice that when you get that victory in the first game of the season, it’s a victory for everyone, so I’m really pleased.
“I don’t know… we wait until the end of the month. Like I said, we’ll concentrate on the players that are here and we hope to do some business over the period, but I’m not going to get bogged down in it.
“We know what we need, so we continue to work and to play like we did today.”
With Simpson-Pusey set to arrive officially, Celtic fans will hope this is just the start of a productive month in the market. Rodgers’ comments suggest the club are actively working on deals but are prepared to bide their time rather than rush into signings.
Rodgers has been clear in his assessment that additions are needed to compete on multiple fronts this season, particularly with Champions League qualifiers on the horizon.

Despite the need for reinforcements, Rodgers’ side got the job done against St Mirren, a result that ensures a positive mood heading into the coming fixtures.
Attention now turns to securing the right players before the window shuts, as Celtic look to combine early domestic momentum with squad improvements in the weeks ahead.
