Brendan Rodgers Comments on Dedryck Boyata’s Future

BRENDAN RODGERS was asked about the speculation surrounding his defender Dedryck Boyata after the Belgium star helped the club to another clean sheet against Hamilton this afternoon.

Reports have suggested Fulham will try again in January after they failed to convince Celtic to let the centre back go in the summer. This was the catalyst for Boyata downing tools in the hopes his petulance would see him get a move elsewhere.

It didn’t and the player has come a long way in a short period of time to get in the fans good graces.

Boyata’s contract is up at the end of the season and if the defender does not sign a new deal the option to cash in on him this January could prove to good to pass up.

Speaking about the current situation, Rodgers claimed he was relaxed about the speculation.

“I’m relaxed about it and not worried, really.” he told SunSport.

“You can see that he’s a top-class player, so you have to expect that.

“He’s playing regularly now for the number one ranked team in the world.

“Over my time here he’s grown and developed and improved, he’s a top-class defender for me and when he does the basics well he’s very, very good.

“I’m sure that teams will look at him – and really good sides.”

Boyata and Benkovic have made for a great pairing – one of the best in recent times. It will be slightly worrying for Celtic fans that neither will be here next season as it stands.
