Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Celtic are in discussions to tie down Daizen Maeda on a new long-term contract, with the manager eager to reward the in-form forward for his outstanding contributions this season.

Maeda has been one of Celtic’s standout players throughout the campaign, notching 28 goals across all competitions and earning widespread praise for his relentless pressing, versatility and goal threat. His performances have drawn interest from clubs outside Scotland, but the Parkhead hierarchy are determined to secure his future.
Rodgers made it clear during his media duties on Friday that extending Maeda’s stay is a key priority for him and the club. Talks are underway, and there’s optimism that a deal can be finalised.
“Absolutely, if there is that possibility to do that. I’ve spoken with Dermot [Desmond] and the club and spoken with the player. Hopefully in the future that is something that can be done.
“He’s been absolutely brilliant for us this season. Wherever he’s played, however he’s played, he’s had an amazing season. So of course you would love to tie up one of your best players.” [TCW]
Maeda is currently under contract until 2027, but the club want to reward him with improved terms and potentially add extra years to his deal. At 27, he’s entering his prime years, and Rodgers is clearly building his future Celtic sides around players with Maeda’s work rate and mentality.
His Champions League performances, including four goals in Europe’s top competition, have shown his growth and importance to the team. Locking him down would send a strong signal of Celtic’s intent to retain top talent while continuing to develop a squad capable of competing on all fronts.
