Brendan Rodgers Addresses Celtic’s Striker Plans This Month

Brendan Rodgers has revealed whether he will look to sign another striker this month, with Kyogo set to leave the club and Jota likely to return. Questions were raised over whether Daizen Maeda could be shifted upfront, a role he has previously performed well in.

It has been an interesting 48 hours for Celtic supporters, with news breaking after Wednesday’s Champions League knockout playoff qualification that Kyogo would be leaving the club and Jota would be returning.

However, to add even more drama, Kieran Tierney is reportedly set to pen a pre-contract with the Hoops to rejoin in the summer, and Celtic have been linked with a €10 million bid for Mathias Kvistgaarden as a direct replacement for Kyogo.

Areas of the team like left-back and left wing, which were seen as desperately needing additions, appear set to be addressed ahead of the next round of the Champions League, in a sign that the club is striving to push further in Europe, not content with knockout qualification. Instead, the Hoops look set to make a real go of it in the Champions League next month.

There are doubts over whether Rodgers will be able to sign a striker this month. With the Irishman addressing the Celtic state of play regarding when moves were put in place for a Jota return and if he will look to sign a striker over the next 10 days.

Rodgers said: (Daily Record), “It’s been in the making for a while so there’s a lot of work going on behind the scenes and hopefully we can get someone to add that strength to our squad. I still want another striker.”

A positive update from Rodgers confirms that Jota’s arrival isn’t just because Rennes offered him to Celtic as part of a Kyogo departure. Instead, both deals are separate, and Jota has been lined up for a while. This is a sign that the recruitment team and Rodgers are working well together.

Regarding a potential striker joining this month, it looks like a striker will come in before the window closes, with Rodgers clearly eager to replace Kyogo immediately. In Kvistgaarden, the Hoops will look to sign a striker who has hugely impressed in Denmark and has reportedly been monitored by Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig as potential replacements for key players at their clubs.
