Boyd Nears Full Meltdown as He Imagines Worst-Case Celtic Scenario

Kris Boyd has never been one to keep his emotions in check when it comes to Rangers – but after just two league games of the season, the former Ibrox striker is already sounding the alarm.

Speaking to SunSport, Boyd was visibly rattled by Rangers’ stuttering start. Philippe Clement’s replacement in the dugout has opened his Premiership account with two draws, leaving them four points behind Celtic at this early stage. The Hoops have taken maximum points, and Boyd fears things could get ugly very quickly.

The panic ramped up when Rangers decided to postpone their SPFL fixture between their Champions League playoff ties. While Celtic faced the same decision ahead of their match with Livingston, the champions opted to play on. The upshot? Celtic could be sitting a minimum of seven points clear before the first Glasgow Derby of the season – and if Brendan Rodgers’ side were to win that derby at Ibrox, the gap could be a yawning ten points before the end of August.

Boyd didn’t hold back on his doomsday scenario: “I don’t see Rangers being able to claw that back, you know, and I think that would be the scary thing about it.”

“I think that would be the scary thing about it.”

For Celtic fans, it’s a familiar script. Ibrox is a place of extremes – they’re either marching to glory or in full-blown crisis. The notion of patience rarely features in Boyd’s punditry, and the thought of Rangers chasing a sizeable deficit before the leaves have even turned is clearly gnawing at him.

To be fair, Celtic aren’t in cruise control either – they’ll have to graft for results in the coming weeks to make Boyd’s worst fears come true. But in Glasgow football, momentum is king, and right now it’s the green half of the city dictating the pace.

If Celtic can keep their foot down and take care of Livingston, they’ll have the chance to send Boyd – and the Ibrox faithful – into full-blown meltdown by the end of the month. For now, though, it’s only two games gone… not that you’d know it listening to Kris.
