Celtic are in the market for a striker this January. Saturday’s win over Ross County only highlighted the need for a different option to Kyogo Furuhashu up top.
Since the summer, links to Sydney van Hooijdonk have been coherent. An update from Sky Sports Journalist Anthony Joseph stated last night that the Hoops remain interested in the player, but are yet to make any contact with Bologna.
The Italian team were in action on Saturday evening. They took on Milan at the San Siro and came away with an impressive 2-2 draw thanks to a last-minute equaliser.
After the match, gaffer Thiago Motta was asked about the situation of van Hooijdonk. He said (RecordSport): “We’ll see if in the end he stays here or not, the important thing is that he always trains to the maximum.”

Although Motta remained tight-lipped, it does seem likely that the 23-year-old will depart i Rossoblu this window. Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that he has been given the green light to leave on loan.
Given Celtic’s continual links to the player and their clear need for a striker to be added to the squad, a move for an out-of-favour van Hooijdonk does make sense. The club have just over four days to sound out a deal for the son of Pierre, which would give fans some sense of encouragement.
