Brendan Rodgers has shared his delight after Celtic completed the signing of Michel-Ange Balikwisha from Royal Antwerp.
Rodgers had been pushing for additional attacking options ahead of the transfer deadline, and the capture of Balikwisha represents a major boost. The 24-year-old brings title-winning pedigree from Belgium as well as Champions League experience, attributes Rodgers believes will make him a key figure in Glasgow.
Balikwisha’s versatility was also highlighted by the Celtic boss. Capable of operating on either flank, the attacker is expected to inject pace and directness into the side at a time when injuries and inconsistency have left the squad stretched in forward areas.
He said: (Celtic FC), “I am delighted to welcome Michel-Ange to Celtic and I believe he will be a great addition to our squad.
“He is a really talented, exciting player and with a good level of experience at a high level already, so he will be an important player for us moving forward.
“He loves to attack and can play both sides of the pitch so we are sure he will give the team some great options.
“Having spoken to Michel-Ange I know he is very excited about joining Celtic and he wants to be a big success with us, so we look forward to working with him.”
Rodgers’ comments highlight the importance of the signing, with Celtic looking to strengthen after a tough start to their European campaign. Balikwisha’s arrival adds another dimension to the squad, offering Rodgers flexibility in how he shapes his attack.

The Belgian’s hunger to succeed was a key factor in getting the deal over the line, with both player and manager keen for him to make an immediate impact.
Celtic’s need for attacking reinforcements has been clear, and Balikwisha now has the opportunity to stake his claim quickly.
The timing could not be more significant, with Celtic set to face Rangers at Ibrox on Sunday. Balikwisha could be thrown straight into the derby atmosphere, giving Rodgers another attacking option for one of the biggest fixtures of the season.
