‘Big Boots to Fill’ – Idah Reflects on Kyogo’s Exit After Aston Villa Brace

Celtic striker Adam Idah has discussed the departure of Kyogo Furuhashi for the first time following the Japanese forward’s move on Monday, after Idah netted a double against Aston Villa in the Champions League last night.

Adam Idah has not yet reached the heights of last season, but against Aston Villa, he stepped up with a brace to level the game, marking what was arguably one of his best performances in a Celtic shirt since joining the club just over a year ago.

His goals demonstrated his potential and ability to deliver when it mattered most, showing growth in his confidence and skill. Despite the defeat, his contribution in a tough Champions League match highlighted his importance to the team and his development as a key player for Celtic.

Idah looks set to give his all to become Celtic’s go-to striker, and with the Hoops likely to reinvest the £10 million they received for Kyogo before Monday’s transfer deadline, the Irish forward will likely face competition from a striker with proven pedigree.

Like Idah, this new arrival will most likely come with a significant transfer fee, having joined the club for £9 million from Norwich City following a successful loan spell. This competition could spur Idah to push himself further, aiming to prove he is the right choice to lead the line for Celtic.

Idah reflected on Kyogo’s time at the club, expressing great respect and admiration for his former teammate.

When asked ‘You’ve been vying with Kyogo for that starting striker spot, now he’s gone, how keen are you to make that spot your own?’

Idah said: (The Celtic Way), “Yeah, of course, I think any striker wants to play all the time. Kyogo has been fantastic, he’s a great player, he’s a legend at the club. It was good playing with him, watching him, he is an unbelievable player.

“But now it’s up to me, I’ve got big boots to fill, and it’s great for me, it’s great motivation, I just want to keep the spot now and keep going.”

Idah made the most of his first chance to start, following Kyogo’s departure.

Despite all the criticism the Irish striker has received in the media over the past two months, he showed last week, with his cameo appearance, how he can change the game for the Hoops. His run through the Young Boys’ defence helped Celtic find the winner to secure a knockout playoff place.

Against Villa, his double was a sign that, in big games in particular, he rises to the occasion. The only thing left for Idah to work on is his consistency. In short bursts, he is a game-changer, and if he can maintain that level more often, he will become Celtic’s top striker.
