Best in Brazil: Alexandro Bernabei Named in Serie A Team of the Season

Alexandro Bernabei’s successes on loan at Brazilian top-flight side Internacional have been well documented.

The left-back has come into his own since returning to South America, consistently churning out standout performances.

Although his loan club, Internacional, eventually fell to fifth in the Brazilian top flight on the final day of the season with a 3-0 defeat to Fortaleza, the 24-year-old can reflect on his spell at the Estadio Beira-Rio with utmost fondness.

Bernabei made 25 appearances for Internacional across all competitions, scoring three goals and setting up five. His performances earned widespread plaudits and even suggestions of an Argentina call-up.

Adding further testament to his loan successes, the flying full-back was recently named in the Team of the Season for Brazil’s top flight:

Adjudged to be the best left-back in Brazil over the past year, Bernabei was named in the standout XI alongside the likes of 17-year-old wonderkid Estevao, who will soon join Chelsea for up to £51.4m (The Guardian), and Brazilian international midfielder Gerson.

Bernabei’s long-term future is uncertain, with Internacional likely unable to match Celtic’s reported £8m asking price.

It remains to be seen whether he’ll get another first-team opportunity in Glasgow’s east end, with a move elsewhere looking like the most likely scenario.
