The Swedish international sealed a five-year deal with the Scottish champions on Friday after completing a £1.7m move from Danish side FC Nordsjælland.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed his squad number:

His arrival comes with plenty of expectation, not just because of his strong form in Denmark, where he scored 15 goals last season, but also due to the history tied to the jersey now on his back.

Nygren, 23, has been capped four times for Sweden, scoring twice, and arrives in Glasgow on the back of a standout campaign both domestically and in Europe. He netted a hat-trick in the Europa Conference League against Fenerbahce, showcasing the left-footed quality that caught Brendan Rodgers’ attention.

The Celtic manager was full of praise for his new forward, describing him as a “quality player who will add to our attacking options” and someone he expects the fans will “enjoy watching.”

As Celtic gear up for a busy pre-season schedule and another crack at the Champions League, Nygren is expected to get his first taste of action in the coming weeks. The Hoops begin their preparations with a friendly against Queen’s Park on July 4, followed by matches against Cork City, Sporting CP, and Newcastle United.

Donning the No.8 shirt, Nygren steps into a jersey steeped in significance and expectation and Celtic fans will hope he can make it his own.
