CeltsAreHere understands the Hoops have made a formal approach to sign the 23-year-old from Danish club Nordsjaelland. Talks are ongoing with the player and his representatives, and a deal in the region of £2 million could be enough to get it over the line.

Nygren, who has just six months left on his current contract, had been courted by several clubs across Europe, including in the Bundesliga and Belgian Pro League. Anderlecht were considered strong contenders, but fresh reports suggest they’ve now backed away, believing the player has made his decision to head for Glasgow.

The attacking midfielder enjoyed a standout campaign in Denmark last season, netting 16 goals and providing four assists. His versatility makes him an attractive option for Brendan Rodgers, with Nygren capable of playing as a traditional No.10, deeper in midfield, or even out wide.

While Nordsjaelland are under no obligation to sell immediately, the risk of losing Nygren for nothing in January means this summer represents their final chance to cash in. But much hinges on what the player himself wants, and the signs are positive for Celtic.

Should a deal be completed, Nygren would add a fresh creative spark to Rodgers’ midfield options and bring additional quality ahead of a season where domestic and European ambitions remain high.
