Benfica The Missing Piece Of The Jigsaw

After Benfica’s 5-0 aggregate victory against Dynamo Kyiv, they have become the final team in pot three which completes the potential set of opponents which Celtic could face in the Champions League group stage.

They will join fellow Portuguese sides FC Porto and Sporting Lisbon in the draw on Thursday with the former two time European Cup winners having finished third in the Primeira Liga last season.

With Benfica’s inclusion in the competition this year, there could be the potential for Celtic star Jota to face his boyhood club where he left this summer.

Many Celtic supporters will be hoping that the Hoops can guarantee European football after Christmas alongside competing in the Champions League group with the best possible chance being to finish third.

There is an array of riches in pots one and two but there is some teams in pot three which many Celtic fans would fancy Ange Postecoglou’s team against.

Included within pot three are Borussia Dortmund, Shakhtar Donetsk, RB Salzburg, Inter Milan, Napoli, Sporting Lisbon and Bayer Leverkusen.

Celtic did of course come against Leverkusen in last seasons Europa League and the tie could possibly be a good barometer as to how far Celtic have come since last year.

There is certainly some teams who the Hoops could beat but knowing Celtic’s luck they wil probably get drawn against Dortmund or Inter.
