Beaming Joe Hart Gushes Over Celtic After Priceless Point in Italy

Former Celtic goalkeeper Joe Hart, who retired this past summer, couldn’t hide his pride as he analysed Celtic’s impressive 0-0 draw against Atalanta on co-commentary duty for TNT Sport. Hart, who knows the pressures of European nights all too well, commended his former teammates for their resilience against the reigning Europa League champions.

Reflecting on the match, Hart noted that the team faced immense pressure, particularly in the first half, but stood strong in the face of Atalanta’s relentless attack. Comparing the game to previous European fixtures, Hart said live on TNT, “There were so many moments in that game where it felt like the pressure was similar to the Dortmund game.” He recalled the heavy defeat Celtic suffered against Borussia Dortmund in the past, admitting that on that occasion, things had quickly spiralled out of control.

However, Hart was keen to highlight how different this performance was, pointing out that Celtic managed to handle the chaos in Italy far better this time. “Dortmund got out of control very quickly, but this time Celtic could deal in the chaos, win the big headers, got a little bit of luck, and some big saves from Schmeichel,” he added.

Celtic’s ability to weather the storm in Bergamo, especially in the first half, was crucial. With Atalanta pressing hard and looking dangerous, Hart observed how the team remained composed under pressure and gradually grew into the game. Schmeichel’s performance in goal was a particular standout, as he made key saves to keep the scoreline level.

Hart also praised the collective effort of the entire squad, from the defence to the midfield, and even the attackers who dropped deep to help out. “Once it got through to 70 minutes, it felt like Atalanta ran out of ideas,” Hart remarked, suggesting that Celtic’s game management had drained the Italians of their creativity as the match wore on.

For Hart, the most impressive aspect of Celtic’s performance was the unity and fight shown by every player on the pitch. “Celtic as a complete squad, brilliant effort,” he concluded.

The Hoops now sit on four points from their opening three Champions League games, and this result keeps their European ambitions very much alive. With Leipzig set to visit Celtic Park next.
