BBC Pundit Delivers Damning Celtic Verdict

Former Hearts midfielder and current BBC pundit, Michael Stewart has delivered a scathing report of the Celtic midfield, making a comparison to how they faired under ex-boss Brendan Rodgers to now, under Neil Lennon.

Speaking BBC Scotland Sportsound, Stewart also questioned the determination of those playing in the midfield for Celtic after yesterdays 2-2 draw with Hibernian and how it has changed since the Rodgers days.

“The miscommunication and working between the players there, it’s slack play.

“When you look at when Brendan Rodgers and Celtic were flying, the midfield in particular, there was always interchanging, quick passing, players were in close contact with each other.

“Now they’re being forced apart, the balls are becoming longer or riskier, and they’re not doing it quick enough either.

“Celtic at the moment don’t seem like they’ve got the determination or the know-how. The middle of the park there, that’s a concern, they couldn’t get the game knitted together.”

Watching how we played in the middle of the park yesterday, it really is concerning considering those players were there in the Rodgers days and it hasn’t changed all that much.

That drive and commitment just seems to be missing sometimes and can be turned on when it is needed as we saw yesterday, coming back to get a point from the game. That result certainly isn’t good enough but it does show they can do it but why not more often.

When it comes to football, especially in Scotland the midfield battle is absolutely crucial if you want to get a result out of a game. Under Rodgers we won that battle in the majority of games it wasn’t really a concern at that time. Somehow, we need to try and get back to that level as soon as possible, if we want to win this league title again.
