BBC Confirm Celtic Approach for Championship Star

BBC Wales have reported that Celtic tried to land Cardiff City winger Josh Murphy on deadline day. The Scottish Champions were in the market for a winger late on with the news Mikey Johnston would be out for at least a month or two.

There was talk of Christian Atsu but Josh Murphy wasn’t mentioned on the day, however it appears Celtic made an approach to Cardiff City before the deadline.

BBC report that it was an initial loan deal with an option to buy in the summer, but the Welsh club rejected the approach

“Cardiff City manager Neil Harris insists Josh Murphy has a “big part” to play for the club after they rejected a bid from Celtic for the winger.

It is understood the Scottish champions tried to sign Murphy on loan – with an option to buy – in the January window. The 24-year-old has only started two of Cardiff’s 14 Championship fixtures since Harris took charge in November.”

Since the deadline it looks more and more like Celtic are playing 3-5-2 which would not call for anymore wingers to join our ranks. The club also got a big boost from Mohamed Elyounoussi being on the bench against Motherwell.

The Norwegian has missed a chunk of the season through injury but is the key to Celtic changing formation back to their usual one man up top flanked by wingers. Neil Lennon may revert to that formation for particular games going forward but knows the 3-5-2 can be a big success.
