Unlikely source Barry Ferguson has claimed Odsonne Edouard is worth every penny of a deal topping £35m and believes Celtic are right to ask for a large amount for their star striker.
While some pundits from across the city are still entrenched in a debate on who the better striker is between Morelos and Eddy (Yip, with a straight face too), Ferguson believes the Frenchman is phenomenal when in top form and the while the club don’t want to sell him, should be asking for top dollar.
“They would have to look at that. I think he’s worth that all day.” Ferguson told Go Radio.
“He’s a £30m-£35m for me. It has to be around that mark. He’s key for Celtic. If you get him at the top of his game, he’s a top, top player.
“Every player has their price though and when you start banding those figures about of up to £35m then Celtic would have to look at that but I’m sure they are desperate to keep him. Edouard is key, I know he’s not had a great start to the season but once he’s up and running he’s top notch.”
Celtic have so far managed to keep clubs at bay when it comes to the centre-forward. They have not been encouraging bids at any point and if you believe Neil Lennon, no official bids have been made as of yet.
It’s a very important season for the club and if Celtic were to sell this late on in the window, the heat which would be on Peter Lawwell would eclipse perhaps anything he’s experienced before.
Edouard is with the rest of the squad in Bosnia as the bhoys look to get to the group stages of the competition.
