Barry Ferguson Jumps to Ange Postecoglou’s Defence

BARRY Ferguson has had some howlers when it’s come to Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic, one of them claiming that Gio “had Ange sussed”, which went down quite well with Celtic fans.

Ferguson has expressed his annoyance with the Postecoglou links to Spurs, directing it to the Spurs fans, who have, quite frankly, been arrogant with the Aussie’s potential appointment.

The speculation around Postecoglou’s future has highlighted a less savoury aspect of football culture – the dismissive attitude often shown by the English towards the Scottish game, despite top stars in the league coming through the Scottish game.

Barry Ferguson has jumped to the manager’s defence, criticising the reaction that’s surfaced online, with petitions and hashtags opposing the appointment of Ange Postecoglou.

Writing in the Daily Record, the Ibrox cheerleader said:

“I’m not ashamed to admit it. I’ve been so impressed with everything Postecoglou has done. I like the way he comes across and I can fully appreciate what he has done in terms of the way his team plays the game. He’s been good for football in this country, no doubt about it. So, in a way, I would rather he stays put and then we can get a real gauge for the progress being made at my old club.

“The level of arrogance, ignorance and disrespect that’s being shown is a disgrace. It’s typical of the kind of snobbery that the English show to the Scottish game. They look down their noses at us, even when the likes of John McGinn, Andy Robertson and Kieran Tierney are ripping it up in their own Premier League. It cracks me up.”

Whether Postecoglou stays or goes, his impact on Celtic and Scottish football will not be forgotten. His legacy will be one of success, innovation, and a challenge to the status quo.
