Callum McGregor has moulded into a Celtic captain who sets the standard week in, week out and leads Ange Postecoglou’s men by the most high example.
The Scotland international regularly plays the deepest role in Celtic’s midfield trio, controlling the game from deep and setting the tempo.
McGregor is one of the Hoops’ most pivotal assets and former Rangers midfielder Barry Ferguson believes if you can halt the 29 year old, you can halt Celtic as a collective (Daily Record):
“If you stop Callum McGregor, you do stop Celtic generally from playing.
“But when you get the ball you need to focus on your own game and forget about where Callum McGregor is. You need to influence the game.”
It would be fair to say one may scratch their head at these comments.

Initially, Ferguson is partly correct in saying is you halt McGregor you can halt Celtic however the Hoops do have some other magnificent talent who can more than step up.
After claiming stopping the midfielder is the key to halting Postecoglou’s men, Ferguson says you need to forget about McGregor and focus on your own game.
This is greatly contradictory from Ferguson and slightly baffling at the same time.
It shows the level of intelligence and common and sense the former Ger has and that his punditry duties are of a low quality.
Nevertheless, he has recognised the significant threat posed by Callum McGregor and that the Celtic captain is key for his side, a viewpoint many would align with.
