Former Rangers midfielder Barry Ferguson has admitted his fear of the threat that Kyogo Furuhashi poses. The Celtic striker will be unable to complete the entire game, yet he still has the Ibrox faithful on strings.
Kyogo is returning from a couple of months out with a hamstring injury, with Ange Postecoglou easing him back into action.
The Japanese striker will be looking to get back amongst the goals on Sunday, still searching for his first goal against Celtic’s rivals.
Speaking on Go Radio, quoted by Glasgow Times, Barry Ferguson admitted he is fearful about Kyogo, and he hopes he doesn’t take to the pitch on Sunday;
“I’d prefer if he wasn’t in the 18.
“I rate him so highly, I didn’t know anything about him, probably like many people, he has impressed me so much.
“The first half of the season, just his goal scoring, he does the dirty side brilliantly, his movement inside the box is exceptional as well.
“His tracking back, there were times he was running past the midfielders to try and win the ball back, in terms of what Maeda does, brilliant work ethic.
“It’s a concern, but you know you are going to be coming up against quality, Celtic have got quality players, confidence is sky high.
“He is one player if he starts, you need to keep an eye on him.”
It’ll be interesting to see if Kyogo plays from the start. With Giakoumakis ruled out for this weekend’s game, Postecoglou must think of another way to hurt the Rangers’ backline.
The Aussie boss is fortunate that goals have come from various sources. Heading to Hampden, Postecoglou will be keen for the team to maintain their high-performance standard, knowing that if they do so, they will book themselves a slot at Hampden next month.
