Michel-Ange Balikwisha Classy Thursday Night Statement

Michel-Ange Balikwisha signed for Celtic tonight – and he has already shown his class off the pitch with a heartfelt farewell message to Royal Antwerp.

The winger, who joined the Hoops in a deal worth around £4.5m, took to social media after the transfer was confirmed to thank everyone connected to his former club. His message struck the right note, full of gratitude and respect after four years at the Bosuil.

“Today it’s time for me to say goodbye,” Balikwisha wrote. “But first of all I would like to thank you all (club, fans, players, kine, staff, kitman) for these 4 beautiful years spent together with 3 titles and the Champions League in Bosuil after 66 years.

“I will never forget the support and all the love you give me. I wish you the best for the future. I will continue to follow and support you. Love you, see you soon.”

It was a message that summed up the type of person Celtic are bringing in. Too often farewells are a formality, but Balikwisha’s words carried sincerity. He made sure to acknowledge not just teammates and fans, but staff behind the scenes – a touch that won’t be lost on Celtic supporters.

It’s a sign the club have landed more than just a player. Balikwisha arrives with European experience and attacking quality, but also with humility and professionalism. Brendan Rodgers has spoken about the importance of strong characters in his squad, and this farewell shows the winger fits that mould.

Now the big question is if Balikwisha will be given a baptism of fire at Ibrox on Sunday. With few options out wide, he could just play!
