Bad Day for Timo Weah – Cup Final Regret Sinking In?

It would appear Timothy Weah’s loss was Mikey Johnston’s gain when it came to the last couple of games of the season.

The American was told he could leave Celtic early from his loan deal after refusing a compromise between club and country which would have seen Timo miss his opening World Cup under 20 group game in Poland to potentially play in the Scottish Cup Final.

Weah had got some game time in the lead up to his departure and if you look at the Ibrox line up when Mikey Johnston was put back into the side out of nowhere, you have to believe that spot was meant for Timo. Mikey then got the final game of the season where he more than impressed, scoring a brace as Celtic beat Hearts 2-1.

The New York born star got his international wish yesterday when he started for his country against Ukraine but the Americans fell to a 2-1 defeat in the end with Weah leading up top.

The frontman will no doubt turn on the TV today and watch from afar as Celtic take to the field at Hampden, knowing he could have very well been a part of proceedings and still played in America’s final two group games.

Oh well.
