Auston Trusty insists he’s not concerned by the prospect of Celtic adding another centre-back this summer, with the American defender embracing the constant competition that comes with life at a top club.
The 26-year-old was a deadline day signing last summer, arriving from Sheffield United in a £6 million move. He showed early promise in Brendan Rodgers’ side, performing solidly during the Hoops’ Champions League campaign.

Despite reports that Celtic are targeting players in that area of the pitch, Trusty is taking a level-headed approach to the speculation.
He said: (RecordSport), “There is always competition for places at every team.
“As you move up the ranks, there is always going to be competition wherever you go. You want a good squad and a squad with depth, too.
“Whoever is playing, and whoever they bring in, you have to have trust and faith in yourself. It’s about winning your spot and doing your thing. But the club is always going to look to bring in the right people too.”
Reflecting on his first full season at Parkhead, Trusty said: “I felt it went extremely well. I was unfortunate at times with some injuries which were bad timing. But overall I feel extremely proud of last year. I’m excited about this coming season too.
“But I look back on my first year and it’s extremely positive. Winning two trophies and doing really well in the Champions League individually and as a collective makes it only positive.”
With a year of experience in Scottish football now behind him, the American international has the chance to push on and become a more consistent presence in the side. His attitude may yet prove valuable as Celtic aim for more trophies next season.

The 25-year-old Dutchman, who stands at 6ft 4in, is valued around £3 million after impressing in Portugal’s top flight last season.
If signed, de Haas would add further competition at centre-back, with Trusty already battling Liam Scales and Cameron Carter-Vickers for a starting spot.
With Maik Nawrocki heading out on loan with an option to buy and Gustaf Lagerbielke leaving permanently, Celtic appear keen to bring in fresh options to cope with the demands of both Scottish football and European.
