Auston Trusty signed off a strong week in style as the American defender continued to impress in pre-season with Celtic.
After featuring in the second half of the midweek win over Sporting CP, where he took over the captain’s armband following Callum McGregor’s withdrawal, Trusty started Saturday’s friendly at home to Newcastle United.

The 26-year-old helped Celtic record a dominant 4-0 victory before making way for Liam Scales just after the hour mark.
Posting on social media following the Newcastle match, he said: (X), “Two wins, two clean sheets, and a man of the match performance! A great way to close out the week against two strong opponents. As always, incredible support at home today and a special honour wearing the captain armband in Lisbon for Celtic.”
The centre-half arrived at the Hoops last summer from Sheffield United in a reported £6 million deal. He featured 37 times in his debut campaign but saw his starting place come under pressure during the run-in, with Scales often preferred by Brendan Rodgers.

With a solid start to pre-season now under his belt, Trusty is staking a claim for a key role in the upcoming 2025/26 campaign.
His leadership moment in Lisbon and performance against Newcastle have offered a timely reminder of what he can bring when at his best.
