Athletic Bilbao Fans Honour Celtic as Rangers Crash Out

Athletic Bilbao once again showed their admiration and affection for Celtic during their 2-0 win over Rangers at the San Mamés last night, securing their place in the semi-finals of the Europa League.

The victory, which saw Athletic Club progress with a 2-0 aggregate score, it also served as another heartfelt tribute to Celtic, who they share a deep respect for.

As the Basque side celebrated their progression to the next round, the sight of Celtic flags in the stands was hard to miss.

A number of Athletic Bilbao supporters proudly waved the green-and-white flags even before kick-off, a gesture that once again reflected the strong connection between the two sets of fans.

This show of solidarity came on the back of a similar display of support last week, when several Bilbao fans were seen singing Celtic songs in George Square ahead of the first leg at Ibrox.

This warm relationship between the two clubs has become a well-known story over recent years, and it’s clear again when a group of Bilbao supporters made the trip to Glasgow ahead of the first leg, with some even taking the time to tour Celtic Park before the match.

The respect between the fanbases is something that has shared with both sides, with a mutual respect.

On the pitch, Athletic Club’s win over Rangers was a well-deserved one, with Oihan Sancet scoring from the penalty spot and Nico Williams adding a second goal to seal the result.

For Celtic fans, it is hard not to feel a sense of pride in the fact that the Hoops has such a respected and friendly following in the Basque region.

The ongoing support from Athletic Bilbao fans means a lot to the Celtic support. It shows that football is about more than just the game – it’s about shared values, history, and standing together.

As Bilbao now get ready for their semi-final match against Manchester United, Celtic fans will surely keep supporting their Basque friends, just as they always have.
