Speaking to MundialMag, the former Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc lifted the lid on his time in Scotland and made the astonishing admission he was once ‘cautioned’ by a police officer for blessing himself at Ibrox – let that sink in.
Speaking candidly about the bitter rivalry that went on before Rangers liquidated in 2012, the Polish star said he liked to feed off the Rangers fans hatred.
“We went back to Ibrox and won 1–0, after it, the police cautioned me for blessing myself in front of the Rangers fans. I didn’t realise before I came to Celtic that there was a religious aspect to the rivalry, I didn’t expect it.
“It was just a routine that I had which I did before every half, which turned out to be a very annoying thing for the Rangers fans.
“But I did enjoy the relationship I had with the Rangers fans, to be honest, it kind of makes you feel alive, makes you feel like the things you’re doing makes them go insane. I did enjoy that.”
With Scotish football under the microscope after another attack on Neil Lennon, this is as pertinent as anything else.
A professional footballer being told not to bless himself in a Scottish ground for fear of inciting violence.
And while we say Scottish football is under the microscope, we throw it out to the wider country as a whole. Allowing morons like this to dictate how we act, and allow others to act is nothing short of embarrassing.
