In our cynical time, we’re used to players bowing to the almighty dollar and heading to more greener pastures at the first chance they get.
However, we have a player in our midst who turned down the chance to move to the land of milk and honey in order to stay at Celtic.
That player is Kieran Tierney!
It will come as little surprise that last summer when Arsenal slapped in a bid of around £10million that the young Celtic left back was not even a little bit tempted to head south to London.
The manager came in last year and I had been told already there was a big bid there,” Tierney said.
Brenan Rodgers came in and the rest is history but such is Tierney’s devotion to Celtic he was quick to say it wouldn’t have mattered who the manager was – he wanted to stay at Celtic.
“The money factor is what a lot of people care about.
“The club could have brought in anybody as manager and I would have stayed but after speaking to Brendan I knew something special was happening.”
We never know what the future holds but it’s entirely possible that Kieran will never want to move on from his beloved Celtic. The defender is genuinely Celtic through and through and that can’t be discounted. When you look at a player like Francesco Totti who stayed loyal to the club he supported as a young lad and how he could never leave them; it’s clear Kieran has similar traits.
Sensible and passionate football fans of any club will understand the left-backs position but the fans down south with overinflated egos that brag more about the league they play in rather than their own team will be baffled by his decision. That’s the way we like it.
