The Belgian midfielder has spoken of the pride he and his family would feel if he can help the Hoops clinch a domestic treble in his debut season.

With the league title and League Cup already secured, the Scottish Cup Final against Aberdeen offers a shot at completing the clean sweep.

“Yeah, it would mean a lot to me, of course, especially my first season,” Engels admitted to Sky Sports. “It would mean a lot to me and also my family. To put in all the hard work that we already did the whole season, that you can finish off with the treble would be amazing.”

Engels arrived at Celtic with a clear understanding of the demands and expectations that come with pulling on the shirt – something he’s embraced.

“You always try to win everything and especially here in this big club, you need to win everything,” he added. “So it’s nice to hopefully do it at the end of the season. There’s still one more big game to aim for and, like you said, it was a big aim for me in the beginning of the season to get the three trophies and hopefully we will have them in the end.”

The 21-year-old has chipped in with goals, assists and a growing influence in midfield throughout the season. With Reo Hatate ruled out through injury, Engels is likely to be among those looked upon to step up and deliver in the final.

Paulo Bernardo will likely start alongside him at Hampden. In the same fixture last year, the Portuguese star started on the bench, but came on to play a decisive role. It was his shot that Jack Butland parried and it fell to the feet of Adam Idah who tapped it on to win Celtic the Scottish Cup against Rangers and seal the domestic double in Brendan Rodgers’ first season back.

Now just one win away from silverware number three, the whole squad be desperate to cap off the season in style.
