Arne Engels’ impressive debut in the Champions League for Celtic has seen him achieve a rare feat, joining the likes of Henrik Larsson as one of the only players in the club’s history to both score and assist in a single match of the competition.

Engels, who is rapidly making his mark at Celtic, showcased his talent during their emphatic victory against Slovan Bratislava at Celtic Park. The match marked a historic moment as it was the first time Celtic had won their opening game of the Champions League group stage.
From the onset, Celtic dominated the match. Liam Scales opened the scoring by heading in a precise corner from Engels, setting the tone for what was to be a memorable night. The first half saw Celtic create numerous chances, although they only went into the break one goal ahead.
The team continued their strong performance in the second half with Kyogo quickly doubling the lead, converting a cross from Nicolas Kuhn. Engels then made a significant impact by scoring from the penalty spot after Alistair Johnston was fouled.
Although Slovan managed to pull one back through Kevin Wimmer, Celtic’s dominance was too much for the visitors. Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda combined while Adam Idah secured the 5-1 win.
Engels celebrated this remarkable performance by sharing on Instagram: “What a way to kick off this campaign! Support was unreal,” accompanied by a collection of photos from the night.
