Arne Engels Celtic Deal Latest

Augsburg manager Jess Thorup remains optimistic that Arne Engels will still be part of his squad for their upcoming match against Heidenheim, despite ongoing transfer speculation surrounding the young midfielder. Engels, a 20-year-old Belgian talent, has become Celtic’s top target in this transfer window, with the Scottish champions keen to bring him to Parkhead.

Celtic have already increased their offer for Engels to £9 million, following an initial bid of £6.5 million that was swiftly rejected by Augsburg. While the Bundesliga club initially held out for £12 million, it’s understood they may now accept £10 million, which could see Celtic break their transfer record for the second time this summer, having already splashed out £9.5 million on Adam Idah.

Despite the intensifying interest from Celtic, Thorup doesn’t believe a deal is imminent. Speaking to Sky Sports Germany, he said: “I think he will be in our squad for the next game (vs Heidenheim on Sunday). I heard about the rumours, I don‘t know what will happen in the last couple of days.“

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers

The potential signing of Engels is seen as a crucial move for Celtic, especially after the departure of Matt O’Riley to Brighton. Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is eager to reinforce his midfield, particularly with the Champions League campaign in mind. He has been clear with the club’s hierarchy that substantial investment is necessary if they are to compete at the highest level in Europe.

Celtic appear capable of meeting Augsburg’s £10 million valuation for Arne Engels, and there’s growing confidence that the Scottish champions will manage to secure the midfielder’s signature before Friday’s transfer deadline despite his manager’s comments. However, with time rapidly running out, it’s going to be a tight race against the clock. While the Hoops are likely to come up with the funds needed to finalise the deal, they’ll need to move swiftly to ensure everything is in place before the window slams shut. The next few days will be crucial as Celtic push to get the deal over the line.

Celtic have a massive game on Sunday against their Glasgow rivals where they could go five points clear of them with a victory. It’s unlikely anyone signed within the next few days will play any part in that game. However, the international break does give Celtic a chance to draw breath and slowly integrate new players should we sign anyone else.

UPDATE 16:15 – Celtic have reportedly made a record breaking bid for the the midfielder.
