Argentinos Juniors Open to Selling Celtic Target

It has been reported that Argentinos Juniors are willing to sell Celtic target Fausto Vera for the right price with bids having already been rejected from Corinthians and Genk [Daily Record].

The club value the 22-year old at around £5.5 million and the chairman has admitted that if the price is right during the summer window then he may depart for ventures new.

With bids having already been rejected that are believed to be £3.4 million, there is a marker as to what the Buenos Aires side are looking for which could be an advantage to Celtic to nip in.

Vera has 18 months left on his current contract meaning that the club are likely to sell this summer to receive a significant fee. There has been reports of the midfielders deal coming to an end this December but Aregentinos have an option of a year extension.

If he does depart Argentinos Juniors, Diego Maradona’s old team would be looking to insert a sell-on clause into any deal with a 30% chunk included which could be a stumbling block for some teams.

There has already been one arrival this summer from Argentina with Vera’s countryman Alexandro Bernabei making the switch to Glasgow for just under £4 million.

Both are capped for their country at U23 level and if the midfielder needs any encouragement to make the switch then that could be in the Hoops favour.

It looks as if the Scottish Champions are intent on bringing in a defensive midfielder having previously been linked with Vinicius Souza before his move to Espanyol.

There is still plenty of time left in the window but Ange Postecoglou will want a settled side heading into those exciting Champions League matches which await Celtic in the coming months.
