Ange Postecoglou’s Refreshing Honesty After Celtic Win

ANGE POSTECOGLOU was happy with a win in the Czech Republic but the Australian was far from happy with his team’s performance.

The manager hasn’t been here for long but you can already see his attacking style of play in fits and burst. However, Ange recognises Celtic are nowhere near where he wants them to be and while we won the game, the team’s performance left Ange with a lot to chew over.

Speaking to SunSport after the game, the Hoops boss was brutally honest, but I don’t think in a way any of the players would take exception too.

“The result is a positive one. I think it’s important, particularly for the players who have been working hard.

“It is reward for the players. Hopefully it gives them some confidence and belief moving forward.

“The performance was OK. We started really well. The first half hour was excellent.

“I just felt we lost our way a little bit after that and lost control of the game. Especially second half.

“We scored four goals, but we had some unbelievable opportunities to score more.

“I felt we just didn’t control the game as well as we could have after 35 minutes of the game.

“Defensively we were really open.

“We still had chances, but it’s NOT the way I want us to play.”

Celtic could have scored six or seven against Jablonec if they had their shooting boots on. It’s defensively we look very poor though. It was too easy for Jablonec to break us down and against higher quality opposition we will lose more.

There’s no point in the manager praising the team to high heaven when he’s unhappy with the way the game went. Yes, a win was important but he is demanding more from this side and he also knows he needs players who can work with his system.
