Ange Postecoglou’s Outstanding and Genuine Response to Journalist

Ange Postecoglou is a straight shooter. We’ve learned that already from his short time as Celtic boss. He doesn’t try to pull the wool over anyone’s eyes and he’s not really a fan of the standard, robot responses you get from some managers when they’re questioned by traditional media.

True to form, Ange gave a belter of a response when it came to a journalist at the Glasgow Times asking about Celtic’s finances and if he was worried about the money not coming in from an unsuccessful Champions League qualifying campaign.

The Australian boss was straight to the point:

“I’m not an accountant mate, I’m a football manager.”

“When people start talking to me about finances they miss the essence of what I’m about,”

“I’m not interested. I want to win games, I want to win trophies, I want to bring special nights to here.

“The finances are for other people.”

It sounds quite flippant and some fans are happy he’s taking this sort of tact with the Scottish media. However, Graeme McGarry, who wrote the article revealed he didn’t get any sort of dismissive vibe from the manager. Instead, he got the impression Ange was just being genuine with his response.

You can be chewed up and spit out by the media in this country. Especially when you’ve come from somewhere they don’t know much about.

Ange continues to impress in that regard. The genuine aura he has around him makes it easy for players and staff to also get behind him.

It’s early days, but if the club back him, there’s every chance Ange can make things happen at Celtic.
