Ange Postecoglou Celtic Signing Set for €28m Move

Former Celtic striker Oh Hyeon-gyu is on the verge of a major move to the Bundesliga, with journalist Sacha Tavolieri reporting that VfB Stuttgart are set to complete a deal worth €28 million to sign the South Korean forward from Genk.

Talks between the Belgian side and Stuttgart are now at an advanced stage, with Oh already travelling to finalise the switch. The 24-year-old is expected to sign a five-year contract with the German club.

Oh joined Celtic in January 2023 from Suwon Samsung Bluewings and played a key part in the club’s domestic double that season, scoring 12 goals in all competitions.

However, after falling down the pecking order, he left Parkhead for Genk in the summer of 2024 in a deal believed to be worth around £2.5 million up front, with performance-related add-ons.

Since arriving in Belgium, Oh has found form again, hitting double figures for Genk and attracting interest across Europe. His performances have now earned him a big-money move to the Bundesliga, less than a year after leaving Glasgow.

It is unknown if Celtic included a sell-on clause in the deal that took Oh to Genk, though the club is known for regularly inserting such clauses into outgoing transfers. If one was agreed, the reported €28 million fee could result in a tidy sum heading back to Parkhead.

This marks a rapid rise in value for Oh, who has developed into one of Asia’s most sought-after young forwards. Stuttgart’s investment underlines their belief in his long-term potential, while Celtic fans will be watching closely to see whether the club benefits again from his continued rise.
