It was expected and now it’s been confirmed; Tom Rogic has been called up for his country for their World Cup qualifiers – ruling the midfielder out of the Glasgow Derby.

We’ve known this was on the cards for some time and there was know way Australia were going to omit Tom from their squad to do Celtic a favour.

Tom will join up with the Socceroos for their games against Vietnam and Oman.

Celtic and Ange will have been prepared for the call-up and signing Matt O’Riley this week has given Celtic cover for Tim’s absence if Ange believes Matt can go straight into the thick of things.

There could be further call-up news for Celtic on Saturday when the Japan squad is officially announced. We know Kyogo is likely to miss out through injury but Maeda and Hatate both could be called up by Japan. Guchi, as we understand things, is not in contention for a call up at this point.

Fingers crossed we can hold onto the duo.
