Ange Has Important Flag Day Decision to Make

Celtic kick-off their league campaign this Sunday with a home tie against Aberdeen but one of the questions is who will partner Cameron Carter-Vickers in defence.

Carl Starfelt was unfortunate to pick up an injury while away on international duty with Sweden meaning that he has missed out on Celtic’s pre-season.

The 27-year old was an integral part of Postecoglou’s side last season and will be hoping to return from injury at some point next month.

This handed Stephen Welsh the chance to get some game time during the friendlies and I fully expect him to play on Sunday.

Heading into the match against Norwich City last weekend I believed that whatever side Postecoglou played would take to the field as the starting eleven the following Sunday.

There has been recent rumours that Christopher Jullien’s former club Toulouse are interested in the Scotland U21 captain but it appears that Celtic aren’t willing to let the defender go.

Personally, I would be keeping ahold of Stephen Welsh as Celtic would be giving themselves more work to do in the transfer window with it being likely that with the arrival of Moritz Jenz that the former academy star may well be fourth choice pick which is never an easy sell to any player.

Jenz stated that he was fit in last weeks fan media press conference and ultimately it would be up to Ange Postecoglou to decided when he would feature.

The German defender has completed pre-season with FC Lorient and is ready to contribute when given his chance.

He looked good on Saturday when he came on against Norwich with his first action in the game being to block a shot to then clear from the eventual corner.

Jenz will get his chance at Celtic but Saturday may just come too soon.
