ANGE POSTECOGLOU has commented on the decision to allow just 700 fans into Ibrox to watch the Glasgow Derby.
After thousands of Celtic fans watched their team humble The Rangers 5-1 in their own backyard, they locked most of them out of their stadium. At the start of the season, Ibrox chiefs decided to shut all Celtic fans out of their stadium, and Celtic followed suit for the return fixture.
Postecoglou was asked if he was looking forward to the prospect of managing a derby with both sets of fans present. Proceeding to give a classic Ange reply, he said; [Celtic TV]
“It’s a bit of a stretch saying ‘both sets of fans’. I mean, we’re going to have 700 in there who no doubt will make an impression.
“Yeah, look, it’s great. And I think when you look at all the derby games around the world, that’s what kind of makes them a little bit special is that you obviously get some parochial support from both sides.
“So yeah, it’d be great if we can sort of increase that number over the next few years. But just to have sort of 700 will be great for us. Sure, they’ll make a noise and make an impact but, irrespective of the atmosphere it’s gonna be great. That’s why these games are special.”
It’s incredibly petty only to allow 700 Celtic fans entry to the stadium for the fixture, especially when The Rangers have allowed thousands of fans of other teams to take up more than the corner of their stadium.
Celtic’s stance is clear – they want 8,000 back for the derby. However, the controversial topic amongst both fan bases doesn’t look to be getting resolved anytime soon.
