Ally McCoist Left Fuming After Celtic Intervention

THIS WEEK, John Kennedy picked up the phone and talked to his former teammate Andreas Hinkel about The Rangers.

Hinkel is not the number two at RB Leipzig, who faced the Ibrox side in the Europa League semi-final in Germany on Thursday night. Van Bronkorst’s team sat deep and limited the opposition’s chances. A brilliant volley from Angelino saw the Germans win 1-0.

However, John Kennedy’s conversation left Ally McCoist fuming. He claimed it went against the Celtic assistant’s interests as the coefficient could be damaged because of it. As quoted by Football Scotland, the former Blues striker said;

“Don’t start me on the coefficient by the way,” McCoist said on BT Sport’s Scottish Football Extra.

“Everybody in Scotland seems delighted with the coefficient, apart from John Kennedy, who is trying to lower the coefficient by all accounts.

“Andreas Hinkel phones him and says ‘what about that Rangers?’ and John says ‘oh I’ll give you all the information you want Andreas, you are from Germany, have all the information on Rangers, that will really help the coefficient in Scotland’.

“What is going on with you lot [speaking to fellow pundit Chris Sutton]? It’s treason, treason I tell you.”

The Bundesliga side is a good team; Kennedy’s words probably made little impact on the scoreline.

The Ibrox club are still in the tie, just a goal behind. They play the return leg on Thursday after travelling to Parkhead on Sunday.

It’ll be interesting to see what kind of team The Rangers field on Sunday. Will they go full strength or turn their priorities to Europe? After all, this result will have no impact on the league.
