There will still be a bitter taste in the mouths of some Celtic supporters following Wednesday night’s events in the Champions League. Defeat to Lazio was tough to take, and Hoops right-back Alistair Johnston thinks his teammates need to be smarter in Europe.
Speaking post-match midweek, the Canadian said how teams will punish you much in the Champions League compared to domestically. He quipped (Glasgow Times) “Teams are ruthless and clinical. If you give up a half-chance, which potentially you might get away with in the Scottish Premiership, then you won’t get away with it here. That’s something we just need to be smart with.”

It was Cameron Carter-Vickers who lost the ball on the edge of the Celtic box for Lazio’s winner two days ago. As Johnston says, mistakes like that simply cannot be afforded in the Champions League.
