Alistair Johnston Delivers Hilarious Mask Verdict On Instagram

Alistair Johnston delivered a hilarious verdict on the mask that he wore for part of Celtic’s late 3-1 victory over Motherwell on Sunday.

The Canadian right-back returned to the starting lineup after he suffered a face fracture away at Hibernian a week and a half ago. Similar to Callum McGregor a few years ago, Johnston proceeded to wear a mask while playing following his injury.

This was to ensure his safety after suffering such a delicate knock. After Blair Spittal opened the scoring at the end of the first half, though, the 25-year-old soon got rid of the protection.

When the Motherwell players were celebrating, Johnston shook his head and promptly took his mask off. He then ran over to the dugout to hand back it back to the medical team.

Celtic made a post on Instagram while he was wearing it but after the game, Johnston shared it to his story with the caption ‘Mask is in the bin’:

It certainly seemed to bother the defender and when he removed it, Johnston’s performance seemed to take a turn for the better. Indeed, it was his cross from which Adam Idah converted his late goal. One imagines Johnston will remain maskless midweek against Dundee.
