Alex Valle Embracing “Really healthy” Left-back Competition With Greg Taylor

Celtic’s young left-back Alex Valle has emerged as a key player over the past few matches, putting in strong performances and solidifying his place in the side.

The Spaniard has been in impressive form, especially in Wednesday’s match against Atalanta, where his defensive contributions and attacking bursts down the wing earned him praise.

Starting Celtic’s last three games, Valle has made the most of his opportunities, impressing fans as he competes with Greg Taylor for the starting role.

Taylor, who had been sidelined due to injury, is now fit and back in contention as the Hoops prepare to face Motherwell later today. Valle views the competition between the two for the left-back spot as positive and believes it’s ultimately beneficial for both players and the team.

Reflecting on the dynamic between himself and Taylor, Valle said [Glasgow Times]: “The competition between myself and Greg is really healthy. He’s a great person and a great player also. It was unfortunate for Greg to get injured, but these things happen in football.”

The 20-year-old also recognises that the opportunity to start wasn’t guaranteed, and he has approached each match intending to make a mark. “It has given me the opportunity to come into the team,” he said.

“I’ve tried to take my chance and give the best I can. Whether I stay there is not my decision; I’m just trying to do everything I can in every game and training session.”

Valle’s mature approach and strong performances have given manager Brendan Rodgers a decision to make, as Taylor’s return raises questions about who will secure the left-back spot going forward. Valle’s recent form may make it difficult for Rodgers to ignore, but with Taylor’s experience and past contributions, the competition between the two will only push each to higher standards.

With the season pressing on and Celtic aiming to stay dominant, Valle and Taylor’s battle for the left-back role could pivotally shape the team’s defensive strength.

For now, Valle’s confidence and commitment to improvement suggest he’s ready to fight for his place, and his performances will certainly keep Taylor on his toes as the season unfolds.
