Hayato Inamura’s expected move to Celtic has taken a significant step forward, with Albirex Niigata confirming the defender has departed the club to complete the necessary procedures for an overseas transfer.
The Japanese side stopped short of naming his next destination, but the 23-year-old centre-back has been strongly linked with a switch to Celtic Park throughout June.

In an official club update, Albirex stated: “We would like to inform you that Hayato Inamura (23), a member of our club, left the team on June 29th in order to complete the necessary procedures and preparations for a transfer to an overseas club.
“We will notify you of Inamura’s future once an official decision has been made.”

Inamura has only just completed his first full season of professional football, having taken the university pathway into the J-League, much like Celtic midfielder Reo Hatate.

Should the move be finalised, he would become Celtic’s first Japanese signing since Yuki Kobayashi arrived under Ange Postecoglou. Brendan Rodgers is keen to bolster his defence this summer, and Inamura now looks close to becoming his first addition from the Far East.
