Aiden McGeady On Why Brendan Rodgers Wasn’t ‘Too despondent’ With Sunday Draw

Former Celtic winger Aiden McGeady doesn’t think Brendan Rodgers was overly disappointed after seeing his side drop league points for only the second time this season at Tannadice today.

The Hoops faltered to a disappointing goalless draw with Dundee United and, despite dominating the ball, failed to create many opportunities, registering just three shots on target throughout the 90.

Rodgers didn’t seem too gutted post-match, however. Indeed, his side still sit nine points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership and have two favourable home fixtures on the horizon next week. The current situation is by no means a disaster.

McGeady bought into such a narrative in the Sky Sports studio after today’s game: “It was the final ball, the final pass, the killer pass, the finish, it just wasn’t quite there,” he said (Sky Sports).

“He knows he’s got a lot of games upcoming in the next month. He’s got a big squad, and he’s having to manage those players and manage those personalities, and there’s still a healthy lead at the top of the league, so he doesn’t seem too despondent.”

Next up for the Hoops is a home Boxing Day clash against Motherwell.

It is the perfect opportunity for Rodgers and Co. to get back on track after a disappointing result in the city of discovery today.

The Hoops were poor in Dundee, although their current overall predicament and general start to the season, on the whole, remains entirely positive.

The clash with the Steelmen is followed by the visit of St. Johnstone to Parkhead next Sunday before all eyes turn to Ibrox.

If last Sunday’s match-up with Rangers was anything to go by, the New Year derby will be one not to be missed.
