The 22-year-old has been part of Brendan Rodgers’ squad this season but has not featured since returning from his loan spell at Motherwell last year early due to injury.
With Crystal Palace’s Jeffrey Schlupp closing in on a loan move to Celtic, Montgomery could now be allowed to leave before the 11pm deadline.
He is currently undergoing a medical in London now.
Montgomery is no stranger to St Johnstone, having spent the 2022/23 season on loan at the Perth club, where he gained valuable first-team experience. Now, he could be set to link up with the Perth side once again in search of regular minutes.
St Johnstone are looking to pick up some form, build on their weekend win and move out of bottom spot as they battle relegation.
With Schlupp’s move to Celtic edging closer, Montgomery’s place in the squad looks uncertain, making a loan move a logical step for the young full-back.
Celtic are finalising their last pieces of business before the window slams shut, and Montgomery’s return to St Johnstone could be one of the final moves completed.
